Atithi Devo Bhav!

Started in January 2012, Padhaaro is the first of its kind  ‘welcome visitor’  program in India initiated by a group of young, passionate travel enthusiasts who are trying to change the way tourists experience India. Ish Jindal, NIT Warangal, Saurabh Jain, IIT Delhi Alumnus, Hitesh Kumar Kyal, MDI Gurgaon Alumnus, and Sanchit Malik, MIT Pune are the co founders of this innovative organization. It has recently been joined by Himanshi Baranwal, IIT Delhi.

“Atithi Devo Bhavah: Guest is God” the sacred ancient Indian proverb, is being adopted, (no employed!), in its true form. It is an effort to expand this localized concept of “Guest is God” for the global tourists. The program consists of assisting the tourist straight away from the scratch: planning, itinerary, commuting, stay and the list never ends…..
Tourism is a booming and bustling industry that plays a vital role in enrichment of knowledge, bringing social development and economic growth. Every year thousands of tourists flock to India and many more desire to visit the land of Golden Sun. But they are astounded by many a problems that plague tourists who are on a visit here. The idea to restore image of India, and to provide a comfortable and enriching experience to tourists is what the organization thrives upon.

Padhaaro offers free, personalized tours of various Indian cities led by a volunteer Greeter. They have a network of active volunteer greeters who are available to give insider tips and helpful advice to tourists to make their visit to India the best that it can be. The volunteers are highly trust worthy and hence this offers an icing on the cake!
Currently the network exists in major cities such as Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Bangalore, Jaisalmer etc but is steadfastly growing. Visitors are matched regularly with friendly and enthusiastic Indians who are happy to share the city they love with foreign tourists. Greeters and visitors are matched according to language, neighbourhoods, and interests when possible.

True to its name, it welcomes anyone and everyone to visit India and immerse oneself in the potpourri of multicultural and multilingual diverse India!
