CashKaro : Now earn back on your regular purchases

43254325a1 is India’s largest Cashback & Coupons site. Through Cashkaro, members can get Extra Cashback on their online shopping at Snapdeal, Myntra, Yatra & 500+ ecommerce partners. The same Cashback concept is extremely popular in the UK & US with leading Cashback sites making over $100m in revenues. With the huge e-commerce growth in India, Cashkaro is set to do the same here & is pioneering the Cashback idea in India.

Cashkaro was launched in April 2013, Cashkaro is headquartered in Gurgaon with development team in Chennai. It was founded by Swati Bhargava and Rohan Bhargava, young entrepreneur couple who left their lucrative Investment Banking jobs in London to start the Cashback business in the UK & have now expanded it to India.

Cashkaro provides greater marketing & visibility to its listed retailers and earns commission after every successful sale. Cashkaro then shares this commission with its members as Cashback, thereby providing them extra savings on top of all other Coupons and discounts available. Therefore, it serves as a one-stop shop for online buyers where they can find all Offers in one place with Extra cashbacks.

Cashkaro is the only Cashback site in India that has successfully raised $750,000. It has been funded by a group of angel investors in the UK from companies like Investec, Gumtree, Paypal besides Doug Scott, the owner of ASAP Ventures. Doug Scott is also an Advisor of the business.

Catering to the ‘financially conscious online shoppers’, the company counts a few key differentiators distinguishing it from the rest of the milieu –

Broad Brand Base – Over 500 retailers listed giving online shoppers a wide range of choices

Rocketing Revenue – Generated over Rs. 20 crores of sales within 6 months

Funds Raised – It is the only Cashback site in India that has successfully raised external funding, an indicator of people believing in Cashkaro and their business model

Better Value Proposition – Most of the deal sites in India are Coupon sites that gives shoppers online coupons to get discounts. Cashkaro’s proposition is unique as it offers Extra Cashback along with these Coupons & makes the deal richer for consumers

E-commerce in India is on a growth trajectory. Cashback is a fairly new phenomenon in India. Primarily working on a B2C format, there are three main stakeholders in the business: the retailer, the customer and Cashkaro.

Techaloo got an opportunity to have a chit chat with Ms. Swati Bhargava, CEO & Co-Founder @ CashKaro

When we asked Swati about the hurdles she faced while starting this venture, she replied, “Similar to other startup ventures Infrastructure issues, Talent availability and retention were major hurdles. Apart from that there was scarcity of funds as well but we got it through with $750K funding from UK based Angel Investors.”

According to Swati, India is a developing market and there is a lots of opportunity in the e-Comm market as well. Other coupon sites in India are working on a different model, they are getting commission from merchants but not sharing with consumers, but with Cashkaro you can avail the cashback along with the regular offers provided by merchants.

Swati was very excited to share that there are many users which are getting pretty good amount as a cashback, the amount even crosses the 5 digits for many.

According to Swati, her experience in corporate world with leading investment banking company helped her to get required skill set, analytical thinking and network. Her journey from UK to India was exciting, but it wasn’t easy to stop getting heavy monthly pay-check and move into the world of uncertainty. It is a really different experience to work for yourself and see your idea growing like your own baby.

Cashkaro recently launched “Student Ambassador Program“, which allows a student to earn more while learn. Apart from earning it also gives you an opportunity to work with Cashkaro as well.

Our Student Ambassador program will be a great opportunity to get great work experience, rewards, internship/job at Cashkaro & more. Details on how to apply are given here: I hope Techaloo readers will apply :)”

Talking about future goals of CashKaro, Swati says, ” We are looking forward to Q3’14 to launch our interactive Mobile App along with the In-Store coupons, in a long run we want to see cashkaro as a leader in this field”.

Her views on student entrepreneurship say that it is better to work in corporate for some time and know the world better. Her advice to young entrepreneurs is that “Don’t think, Just go for it”. She also added that one should have believe in his/ her idea and should do a proper research while entering into the field of Entrepreneurship, along with this one should also leverage the social media network to the fullest.
