Electronics and Fashion See Most Transactions by Online Shopaholics

Online Oniomania is fast catching up with the Indian consumer. The scenario is upbeat and moving well beyond addressing first-time trials as suggested by Cashkaro.com, India’s leading cashback site.

Category ‘Electronics’ witnessed 35% transactions with brands such as Snapdeal, Flipkart and Tradus.in taking the top three slots. The trend also suggested that ‘Fashion’ scored an equal 35% transactions on Cashkaro, with sites like Jabong, Myntra and Zovi in the first three positions. In the Travel category, that garners about 8% of the transactions, Makemytrip, Yatra, Goibibo, Redbus emerged as the top 4 players. While 5% transactions were registered with ‘Mum & Baby’ online retailers such as Firstcry and Babyoye.com, only 3% was registered by ‘restaurant’ service and food delivery sites Foodpanda, TastyKhana and Dominos.

Interestingly, trends also revealed that while most of Cashkaro’s women consumers chose Jabong, Myntra and Flipkart.com as shopping destinations, the men picked Indiatimes Shopping, Flipkart and Snapdeal.com to shop. In

The savings bug that hits sale seasons across India was also key to oniomaniacs’ addiction to shopping online. When ‘reasons to shop online’ was looked into, 36% netizens said it was cheaper prices, extra cash-back, discounts and rewards that encouraged them. Standing close was 32% who said it was the ‘convenience’ factor that transported them online and 29% attributed it to ‘more variety available online and access to products’. ‘Delivery’ and ‘Online or easy payments’ scored the remaining 3%.

 

Evidence of the maturing and steadiness in online retail and cashback and cash-reward sites came in the form of emerging hot-spots, smaller cities and towns like Jaipur, Pimpri and Bhopal which also registered many repeated shoppers. The majority however were contributed by the leading eight metros.

The trends were analysed over a period of June 2013 to December 2013, on transactions via Cashkaro.com. Cashkaro.com facilitates over 1000 transactions a day.
