GharCare : Repair and Maintenance Services

Its good to own a house/ property but its a pain to get the works done like painting, plumbing etc. Its become even painful when it comes to smaller works like fixing the poor door hinges, leaking pipes, poor switch board fittings which you can’t do on your own.

But if you are from Mumbai then its a good news for you. GharCare is a startup by two 2K12 batch possouts. It will make your life easier.

Techaloo got an opportunity to have a chit chat with the founders of GharCare. Let see, how are they planning to make your life easier.

Techaloo : When did you start your journey?
Ankit & Yash : We started our journey in the mid-2013 when both of us had left our respective jobs to do something different and make a difference to this eco-system.

During the course of market exploration we realized customers need of such services and their desperation of trustworthy persons.

Interesting thing here is we had common schooling, junior college and co-incidentally same engineering college. ‘LOL’ now that’s why nature has got us together so that we could end up doing some great things together.

Techaloo : What made you motivated to join the entrepreneurship community?
Ankit: My dream always was to achieve what others feared to achieve. I kept motivating myself that a day is going to come soon when things will go my way and of course my parents motivated me and are still motivating me to achieve things in the best possible way I can.

Yash: I come from a middle class Gujarathi family where my grand-father and my father have struggled their whole life in developing a sustainable business. Looking at their struggle there always has been an urge to start something of my own. My family is my strength which gives me motivation to enter this eco-system.

Positive attitude, faith, vision, desire, goals all are extremely important but nothing works without Action. So, we have put ourselves in the shoes of complexities to extract the maximum out of us.

Techaloo : How did this Idea come to your mind?
Ankit & Yash : It’s a long story but to keep it short it all started up through frustration on the labors who started the painting job at Yash’s (co-founder’s) place which was left incomplete. Actually we didn’t realize when this idea popped out but all I can say is, this really came out of a frustration which was later realized as a need. Yash’s (co-founder) house has undergone a renovation prior Diwali for which he had called up a painting team to repaint the entire house. Generally, how do these labors work is on quotation contractual basis for which one has to pay some advance to get the work started. It was a job of 5 days out of which first day had gone well, then it was the 2nd day after curiously waiting till evening and getting the painter’s phone switched off is when, Yash realized that the painters had vanished without any prior notice. They did not turn up till date. Another thing happened with me was that I could not find such labors for fixing tiny things at my place like poor door hinges, leaking pipes, poor switch board fittings which anyone could not do on their own without such able-skilled people. That is the day when we realized that if something could be done to overcome such kind of problems that would make a difference to this eco-system.

Techaloo : What was your vision/mission while starting GharCare?
Ankit & Yash :

Vision: Vision always looks like a lucrative proposition but capitalizing and doing justice to it is rather not practical. So, I would rather be a practical person than being a visionary.

Mission: To provide services in order to have healthy homes and also to uplift these able-skilled workforce socially, economically and culturally.

Techaloo : What hurdles did you face while starting?
Ankit & Yash :

  • Acute shortage of manpower willing to work full time for the company.
  • Workforce retention is a major hurdle.
  • Making them socially and culturally fit for the task.
  • Raising funds is another major task which we need to overcome.

Techaloo : Currently you are providing services in Mumbai only, are you planning to reach to other parts of countries?
Ankit & Yash : As of now Mumbai is our target place.

Techaloo : What are the specific locations in Mumbai, where you are providing services?
Ankit & Yash : Currently we are providing services in South and Central Mumbai. Looking forward to cover each and every corner of Mumbai.

Techaloo : What services are you providing?
Ankit & Yash : Services for home improvement, repair and maintenance like Carpentry, Electrician, Plumbing, Masonry, Painting and other value added services like Organic pest control, Water filter purification and AC repair services.

Techaloo : Are you planning to add more services in near future?
Ankit & Yash : Yes, as it is rightly said, “Where Focus Goes, Energy Flows” so we would be adding more services in future as our focus is clear.

Techaloo : How does it work?
Ankit & Yash : It is not much complicated. Customer contacts us and describes about the problem. We send our specialist executive who does the job. For general repairs and maintenance we charge a minimum fee for an hour and after that for every additional hour there is a substantial fee. If any contractual-quotation job is to be done then our executive will visit the customer’s place which will be a complimentary visit.

Techaloo : How do you manage the labor? It is the main headache for getting a small thing done.
Ankit & Yash : Yes, managing workforce is a challenge in itself and we just enjoy taking on challenges.

Techaloo : How is the response till now?
Ankit & Yash : Response has been decent till now.

Techaloo : What are your plans for next 18 months?
Ankit & Yash : We look forward to increase and strengthen our customer base in Mumbai.

Techaloo : What will be your advice for a new startup?
Ankit & Yash : Don’t just think. Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.

Techaloo : What do you think about
Ankit & Yash : It is a great platform for any startup that finds an existence before they actually break the shackles. I am obliged that has taken this initiative to create a network of people in this eco-system.
