IGNIRE : Now ignite and showcase your inner talent

IGNIRE is a Bangalore based startup, started in January, earlier this year. The magazine serves a platform to photographers and writers, especially amateurs to get their work published and reach out to a global audience. This also gives them a chance to not be lost in the crowd and be recognized for their work.
It’s a student run initiative owned by photography and graphics company, Crystal Concept that deals with professional photography services along with designing, editing, writing, architectural visualization, 3D floor plans, and making layouts.
The magazine is a theme based monthly which is run by a team of graduates from different fields of life. Ignire has their own team of photographers, writers and designers. Apart from pictures and articles, it has also featured interviews of young Indian stars like Auditya Venkatesh, Adithya Srinivasan, Vineeth Vincent and the like. Ignire readers have increased three fold since May and has a huge number of over 20,000 readers from across the world. They receive over 100/200 entries every month and that is definitely saying something.
Techaloo got an opportunity to have a chit-chat with IGNIRE. Lets have a look on the conversation.

Techaloo : When did you start your journey?

We came up with the idea of IGNIRE in December 2012. It took us about two months to put the plan and team in order. Our first volume came out on February 14th, 2013 with the theme of ‘love’.

Techaloo : What was your vision/mission while starting IGNIRE?

We started IGNIRE with the basic idea of helping amateur photographers by providing them a global platform to share their work and not get lost in the crowd. Well, little did we know that we’ll go on to cover more than just that.

Techaloo : Why the name “IGNIRE”?

IGNIRE is Latin for ‘ignite’. Ignite means to start the fire, burn and in a figurative sense to even inspire. We chose this name because that’s exactly what we want IGNIRE to do. We want the magazine to be the metaphorical fire that grows to such an extent that no one can stay out of its reach. It should inspire people to do better and give them that push/spark that is required for them to move ahead.

Techaloo : Explain a little more about IGNIRE?

IGNIRE is a Bangalore based, student run, online photography magazine, which serves as a platform to the shutter bugs and writers to make their work reach a global audience. It also interviews young entrepreneurs from different fields. It has its own team of photographers, writers, designers and editors. It is owned by Crystal Concept.

Techaloo : You mentioned that it’s a student run organization, how do you manage it with studies?

We’re all graduates from different fields of life. We work on the magazine whenever time permits and we work as a team. If one of us cannot finish their part due to exams or any academic issues, we cover up for them. For some of us, IGNIRE is our passion while for others it is professional work.

Techaloo : What is the role of Crystal Concept?

Crystal Concept is a Bangalore based photography and graphics company which was initiated sometime in June, last year. It deals with professional photography services along with designing, editing, writing, architectural visualisation, 3D floor plans, and making layouts. It initiated IGNIRE and owns its copyrights.

Techaloo : How do you verify the intellectual property of the photograph/ Article before publishing it?

We use various kinds of software to verify the originality of the concerned piece of work.

Techaloo : Are you providing any kind of training also?

Yes, we’ve been receiving plenty of internship requests. Hence, we’ve decided to start taking interns from January 2014. Depending on the duration of the interview, we’ll train them in all fields related to the magazine.

Techaloo : If I am interested in showcasing my work through IGNIRE, How can I? What is the procedure for the same?

You can just mail us your images/articles and if we like it, we’ll publish it. On a more regular basis, you’ll have to mail us images according to the theme which is mentioned at the end of every volume along with the EXIF details, a caption and links to your other work.

Techaloo : Are you planning for print version or a mobile app?

Yes, we are planning to start the print version of IGNIRE sometime early next year because the demand for a printed version seems to be increasing with every volume.

And we already have a mobile app. All Android, Windows and iOS users can download the Magzter app and read IGNIRE. They can also scan the QR code at the bottom left of each edition to read the magazine.

Techaloo : What are your plans for next 3 years?

As of now, our main aim is to start printing IGNIRE and reach out to more photographers in the process.

Techaloo : Whom do you see as your competitors? How are you different from them?

We don’t have much competition at the moment because it’s a relatively new concept and that is exactly what sets us apart. It’s a monopoly of sorts and by the time someone else comes along, we would have moved ahead. We will face competition when we turn to print from other local and national magazines, but a little competition is always healthy. We have time on our hand to make it big and we’re hoping that’ll happen.

Techaloo : Which countries are you getting traffic from?

We get heavy traffic from India, United Arab Emirates, UK, Australia and the United States of America.

Techaloo : What do you think about techaloo.com?

Techaloo.com is a big boost to start ups like ours. As a start up, we know how difficult it is to reach a larger audience and convey what our organisation is all about. ‘techaloo.com’ is doing a wonderful job of helping us do the same. In fact, we would recommend other start ups to approach techaloo.com as well.

Techaloo : Share some info about founders.

Mohammed Zohaeb is the CEO and founder of Crystal Concept as well as IGNIRE. IGNIRE was his idea and the magazine today is a result of his hard work. Photography and writing have always been his passion but it doesn’t end there. An adrenaline junkie, you’ll either find him making music, travelling, busy with his gadgets or in front of the computer. He is a Computer Applications graduate and currently wishes to pursue his higher studies.
