Interview with the founder of

27662766a1 (pronounced as “New Pinch [dot] Com”) is an Apparel Search Engine which helps you discover dresses & accessories selling across multiple Ecommerce sites.

Nupinch empowers you to choose the best outfit for yourself & save time, save money & buy the best. In other words, They dont sell, they help you buy!

While every entrepreneur is busy selling on their platform, isn’t it a great platform to search for your outfit?
As we at techaloo is always say that requirement generate business, Nu pinch is a live example of it.

Let see that what is hidden in the founder of Nupinch Mr. Ankur Sethi, what motivated him?

Techaloo: How the entrepreneurship journey started? Or who inspired you to start business?
Ankur: Well, I have been a serial entrepreneur & I first started my journey in Year 2008. I was working with Daikin Airconditioners as a Sales Engineer for last one year & one day I realized that working for some one else may not take me where I wanted to reach in my career. I spent a week thinking about it & finally took a decision to quit & start my own enterprise. From there I moved on to run a recruitment firm, then an entertainment retail business & few months back launched was born out of a personal experience when my wife could not discover a dress that she was looking for. Next evening me & Vivek Jhorar (my co-founder at were sitting over a cup of coffee discussing the pain point & we realized we have got to build such a platform.

Techaloo: When did you start the journey?
Ankur: Although I have been an entrepreneur since last 5 years, happened around Oct 2012

Techaloo: Have you got any kind of funding?
Ankur: No, we are bootstrapped.

Techaloo: What was the vision mission of the company? What exactly you wanted to do when you started your business?
Ankur: With we always thought to be the Google for searching clothes & accessories available across online & offline stores.

Techaloo: What services are you providing through nu-pinch?
Ankur: We are a search engine with around 100 online stores listed with us making us one of the largest catalog in the country today. Some amazing features which are unique at Nupinch are-
– Ask a Fashion Designer, What looks good on you. This is a completely free service.
– Free gifts/vouchers every time you make a purchase through

Techaloo: What kind of difficulties you had faced while starting/doing business?
Ankur: Apart from stereotypical challenges like the chicken & egg case for validating our concept, we also had a hard time closing our tech co-founder. Finding the right team at the top is difficult but extremely important to assure the success of your venture.

Techaloo: What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?
Ankur: We see as one-stop shop to search for non-standardized products available at online stores across the globe.

Techaloo: It is generally said that “India doesn’t have a good eco-system for entrepreneurs ”, Do you agree with this?
Ankur: I would somewhere agree & disagree both with this statement. India is an evolving entrepreneurship eco system & in an evolving environment things change too fast. Look at the trend where millions of dollars were invested in eCommerce in year 2012 & all of a sudden the wind changed its route.
I feel we will experience similar swings in the Indian eco-system for another few years till the time we become mature as an entrepreneurial fostering country.
Albeit, one thing that could help the eco-system breathe healthy is relief in Angel & VC funding taxations, which is already initiated by the govt. for angel funding but flexibility in some other areas like FDI shall also help the eco-system build some appetite for risk taking.

Techaloo: You have done MBA from IIM-C, Do you consider that an MBA degree is a must for a startup?
Ankur:I don’t think it is important at all but as mentioned earlier, eco-system in India is yet in a very nascent stage, badge endorsement does help.

Techaloo: Should a student join a startup just after completing his education? Or work experience in an established company is better?
Ankur: Join a startup for sure. What a startup can teach you in 6 months is what you’ll get to learn in 2 years or may be more in a corporate. Fundamentally, the only difference is swim yourself to cross a river or just take a boat!
But you should be ready to work out of residential premises, no coffee machines, no work schedule. Initially it’s tough but if you are an ardent fellow, you’ll have amazing learning working in a startup.
I would say work for a startup even if you are paid less. Imagine working so closely with the million dollar CEO’s of tomorrow, the beautiful brains. I personally had tremendous learning from Kunal Bahl, CEO, Snapdeal while I use to recruit for them initially.

Techaloo: Please share some info about your earlier ventures, Recruiting firm and Thump Entertainment Pvt. Ltd?
Ankur: Recruitment firm was my first plunge into entrepreneurship & I owe great learnings to that business. While running that I got a chance to recruit for a lot of startups blossoming during that period like Snapdeal, Seventymm, Liqvid, Hungama etc. & some of the blue chip companies that were part of our clientele like India Today, Network 18, Nasscom, Sify also taught me how to manage & think like big associations.
Thump entertainment has been an amazing journey again, where we built a great business out of services. Starting with merely 500 rupees, Thump Entertainment went to 8 states with 20 branches across the country in just 20 months. It has been a pure play offline service business that taught us how to standardize a service & scale it up to any heights.

Techaloo: What will be your advice/suggestion for new entrepreneurs for starting new business?
Ankur: No matter what, don’t give up! If it’s not right, it’s not the end… Persevere…
On the practical side, always have a mentor whenever you start. Mentor who comes from the background of your startup, someone who you can trust & who can teach you how to swim your way to cross the river.
I’ll be more than happy to help any entrepreneur who seeks some guidance in any of the spaces I have worked in, feel free to tweet me at @1ankursethi or write me at

Techaloo: Few words about
Ankur: is a brilliant platform for entrepreneurs to trace the current trends in the eco-system & I am sure introducing some entrepreneurs like myself & sharing our story to this network will only help aspiring entrepreneurs get motivated to join the path. All the best!
