mymitra.com is an online matchmaking site for graduates worldwide. They offer a platform for professionals and accomplished people to meet with other like minded people.

USP: Profiles are verified and then displayed based on an individual’s merit.

At mymitra.com you can meet other graduates around the world who have similar interests and tastes like yours. Our target audience consists of people looking for a serious relationship. This audience is not interested in meeting random people nearby. They are focused on finding the right optimal person. Achievement becomes a very important parameter for this audience wanting serious relationships. At mymitra.com they have tried to rank and list people who match a search query, in order of their achievement.Their proprietary algorithm uses education and commitment as some proxies to quantify achievement. So based on these metrics, the higher a person’s achievement, the higher the person will rank in their search results. This leads to higher visibility for these individuals. Also using this same model,
they try to address the problem of choice, that people looking for a serious relationship face.

Some other ways they differentiate themselves on.

1. Target audience: Their site is only for the college graduates. This sets a minimum entry barrier.

2. Verification: The site has a mandatory user verification process via college email id or official college documents. They believe having accountability with Profile ID, will be a strong discouragement for scammers, who rely on anonymity for help.

3. Ice breakers: They wanted to make interaction more natural and thus easier to break the ice between users. We facilitate this by providing users with blogs to express themselves. People can promote themselves also via picture scrolls or blog rolls. Communication between users also occurs via public, private messaging system and chat.

4. Credits: They use a credit system and not subscription model. This will help reduce spam which is a normal problem for women using time based subscription models.

Competition:

Eharmony.com and Match.com are giants in this field. They use complicated matching algorithms to connect people. There are many questions on the validity of these matching algorithms. The age group that E-harmony taps into is middle age users from a different generation. They believe the current generation doesn’t have the patience to sit through long questionnaires. They believe that people can make the best possible choice, if they are give safe and natural environment to interact.

There are new social discovery dating site like Zoosk, Badoo amongst others. These sites offer proximity based location search results which are more apt for quick hookups and short term relationships. They aren’t competing with this segment.

Additional comments:
They have tried to model serious matchmaking as close to real life expectations as possible. MIT and Cornell grads ourselves, They have been working on this project for almost a year, funded by their own personal savings. They are in beta mode and have used their initial user group of classmates and Ivy graduates to do an initial acceptance survey. They currently have hundreds of registered members. Their site has many additional features now, compared to how it started out.
