Techaloo got an opportunity to have a chit chat with Mr. Anupam Khurana, Co-Founder & Director @ Price-Hunt. Let see what he wants to share with us.

Techaloo: When did you start your journey?
Price-Hunt is an online price comparison website which evolved from an             idea     when we personally faced a difficulty while buying a product online. We were                 searching for a mobile online but had to visit several stores separately to discover        the best price and finally decide upon from which merchant to buy the product from.   We wished if there was a site which could bring prices from all these stores together       for a quick comparison and help us make better and wiser purchases. This is when          the idea was brainstormed and eventually conceptualized into a business model.

Techaloo: Where are you based out of? What about the founding team?
We are based out of Gurgaon, Haryana. is founded by Anupam Khurana and Palka Khurana. Anupam Khurana is B.E. (Mechanical) from Delhi College of Engineering with 10 years experience in software and business development. Palka Khurana is B.E.(Instrumentation) from Delhi Institute of technology with 8 years experience in Marketing and sales management.

Techaloo: What motivated you to start
Online shopping is gaining momentum and has bright future prospects with an increasing number of people opting to do shopping from the convenience of their home or office. The common online shopper has to go through multiple steps before he finally lands up with a product. This takes a lot of time defeating the purpose of time saving in online shopping and one still might miss a store offering a better price. Price-hunt seeks to eliminate all these steps and reduce it into one simple search. Thus we came up with an idea of providing one click search for all stores so that the shopper finds the best price/deal immediately comparing offerings from the different stores for the product searched. This led us to the idea to develop price-hunt.


Techaloo: What was your vision/mission while starting
Price-Hunt aims at “wrapping up” a physical store into a website and presenting it to a consumer in his living room. It will empower online shoppers to make an informed buying decision by providing features such as product specifications, reviews, price tracking chart, deals of the day etc. and allow them to evaluate the best online prices and provide other valuable information for electronics, perfumes, watches and books being sold by retailer websites. It has a big range of products listing that makes it easy to search for any product you want to buy.

Techaloo: What hurdles did you face while starting?
Indian online retailing is just beginning to grow. Since our business model is focused on the online retail segment, the major challenge is that this sector is still disorganized. None of the major online stores have product feeds to help sites like us. There is no standardization like produce codes followed in Europe and USA. Moreover, some of the online retailers also present a hostile attitude towards price comparison sites (though our isn’t exactly a price comparison site, but the layouts etc are very similar and we compete with such sites for our audience). Hence, we have developed special in-house software to align products from different sources. Also , since we want minimum human interference in the day to day operations of the site apart from blog contributions and updates, we have made customized multi-threaded software for getting real-time data very fast.

Techaloo: Tell us something about your services.
The approach at price-hunt is totally unbiased and transparent with no seeming edge to any retailer. We are totally focused in bringing the best shopping experience to the user. Price-Hunt uses various algorithms and faster query processing that brings quick search results to customers. The site also offers easy navigation,which enables customers to surf through the most popular brands, the most popular products and the best sellers on one screen.

Techaloo: How does it work real time?
Our differentiating factor is that we provide a real time search for the items and that our data is updated every three hours for the stored products. Also, the user can search for any product across online stores even if its not in our database and a real time price comparison and various product offers will be made available immediately.


Techaloo: What kind of deals/ coupons are you providing?
Along with comprehensive price analysis, you would also find Best Deals, Coupons, Deal of the Day from various online stores , thus making the user online shopping experience more beneficial and rewarding.

Techaloo: Do you have some collaboration with e-commerce merchants?
The site has an affiliate link-ups with various online stores either direct or through intermediate affiliate marketing networks. The revenue model is primarily affiliate commission through the customers we send to the appropriate store. After the transaction is complete, it gets a commission from the partner website. Advertising as a revenue source is not our preference.

Techaloo: Across how many stores, you are providing price comparison?
Price-Hunt searches from over 20+ credible online portals and over 500+ brands and fetches the best deal within seconds, thus saving lot of manual time of doing price comparison.

Techaloo: Is the price only factor while purchasing online? How should a user compare for other factors?
“Indian consumers are very price conscious and we want to help them in terms of best price and product selection”. Research team gives shoppers all the tools needed to make an informed buying decision, including product reviews, specifications, features, price tracking chart and offers and coupons and of course, the best price of any product.

Techaloo: How are you different from your competitors in various segments? is an online price search engine with real time search as a distinguishing feature. It presents the user/shopper with current prices across various credible online stores. In the market , there is a dearth of price comparison sites which provide the data and most of them have either outdated or expired products.

Techaloo: What about support from your family, while starting?
My family has been a major support in terms of moral as well as financial support in my venture as the initial few months in any start-up venture are the testing times. The company is self funded for the time being.

The response has been quite encouraging till now and there is still long way to go. has an average visitor count of about 1.5 lakh per month. The source of traffic is mainly Google organic and social network referral for the time being.

Techaloo: What are your plans for next 3 years? would like to be the top price search engine for India in next 2 years and amongst the top price comparison sites in the world in next 5 years. We plan to go international once we establish strong foothold in India.

Techaloo: What will be your advice for budding entrepreneurs?
We work in a very globally competitive environment and providing the best product/services is the only way to be successful. Whatever you do, give your best.

Mohit Bansal(23) is B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, India. He has interest in business and entrepreneurship and has published couple of research articles. He is also associated with various NGOs. He is with Techaloo when it was just in concept stage. The Techaloo site was not existing even then. Currently Mohit is working with Mu Sigma as a Business Analyst Profile.
