ReviewMatters : Bringing the business and end consumer together

Review Matters got launched in October 2013 with an aim to bridge the gap between businesses and end consumers. Within two months of launch it has got 1000 registered users; it proves the success of Review Matters and the need of such a platform. While reading reviews on any eComm platform, you get a doubt factor over the authenticity of reviews, but now with Review Matters there is no scope of doubt.

Techaloo got an opportunity to have chit-chat with team Review Matters. Let’s see what did they want to create and what have they achieved.

Techaloo : When did you start your journey?
Review Matters : The journey started back in April 2013.We did initial brain storming on our idea and then took 5 months to build the website and launched it recently in October 2013.

Techaloo : What was your vision/mission while starting ReviewMatters?
Review Matters :Our mission is to bring business and their consumer together on Reviewmatters so that consumer`s gets best available service and online business gets increased sales through positive reviews. At the same time, we are here to expose fake and scam businesses through real reviews.

Techaloo : How did this idea come to your mind?
Review Matters :I get every day so many spam mails from different e-commerce companies. I was always under apprehension to go through these websites and do any online transaction. I relied mostly on my friends, relative’s feedback in doing online purchase.
Moreover, if it is a less known website, it is extremely difficult to get any feedback from your friends. New e-commerce website are coming up every day and thus it is important for end users to see the risks involved with online transaction before making any purchase. We didn`t have any such platform for Indian consumers till date whose core focus is on to describe entire online shopping experience which is honest and true. The other well-known review website in India (without naming it) focuses on everything starting from product, movie to merchant reviews. The result is lots of junk reviews scattered all over the website without any solid contents.
So here was the pressing need to come up with platform, where the focus is given to online businesses, where navigation is simple, and algorithm identifies true and honest reviews .We realized that this was missing and that’s when I along with my friend started working on this idea.

Techaloo : How many registered users do you have currently?
Review Matters :In 2 months of launch, we have close to 1000 registered user from across the globe.

Techaloo : Have you got any kind of funding?
Review Matters :We are not actively looking out for funding yet. We are currently focused on building a robust, easy to use platform for our users. We have launched already the initial version of it and there is still lot of things to be done. If we see the need of raising fund, we will go for it.

Techaloo : Explain a little more about “ReviewMatters”?
Review Matters :With the growth of online shops particularly in India selling anything from Mobile, Jewelry to socks, how do you as a buyer know that you’re getting what you paid for? Will these websites serve you as per your expectations or will they fall short off? Will they provide you a quality product? Will they ship the product on time?

Reviewmatters is created to answer these very questions. Reviewmatters helps you make more informed purchasing decisions. At Reviewmatters , reviews are written by every day shoppers who offer objective and honest reviews, which help other consumers to identify the risks involved and select correct merchants.
We believe in few but real and authentic reviews as for us content quality matters more than irrelevant volumes.
We also give platform for business owner to engage with their customers. If they are good with their customers’ service, we spread good words through reviews. It results in higher sales. If there are any grievances from end customer, they can immediately take action on it and correct it through us.

Techaloo : What are the top 3 categories; people are writing review for?
Review Matters :Those are Electronics, Clothes and Fashion and Entertainment.

Techaloo : If we pickup E-commerce, what people are writing most about it?
Review Matters :People are sharing their shopping experience based on following factors:
• Was the delivery on time?
• Did their hotline answer my questions in a friendly and useful way?
• Value for money. Did I get what I paid for?
• Ultimately, did the company fulfill my expectations?

Techaloo : How do you ensure the authenticity of a review?
Review Matters :We are building an algorithm to filter out authentic and real reviews. The basic version of which is already in place on our website. We cannot reveal the details of our algorithm due to obvious reasons but all I can say is that we check user and its review authenticity based on multiple criteria of our algorithm. In the future, as we gain traction, we will tie up with companies to mark user as “Certified user” by checking his order details with company.

Techaloo : Are you planning to have mobile apps as well?
Review Matters :Yes, we will be launching the mobile app soon. We are working on and it will be launched by May-2014.

Techaloo : What are your plans for next 3 years?
Review Matters :We would like to become major player in online reviews in come 3 years. We are planning to roll out many innovative features, few among those are, seamless integration with all social websites so that user can see his friends review at one place, Follow a category and leave out your doubts in terms of question which will be broadcasted to all experts/reviewers/friends in the same category so that user gets quick answer from them. Each reviewer will be awarded points based on his review contents and thus the review coming from user with highest point will be given more attention in search result.
To be frank, we plan for immediate 6 months and see how we gain traction based on feature that we roll out.3 years is long journey and we want to tread it one step at a time.

Techaloo : What will be your advice for budding entrepreneurs?
Review Matters :Our advice to them will be
a).If you believe in your idea, and then go for it. Don`t wait too much ideating just but bring it into reality. Launch with a basic version which covers all the important needs of end users and then start iterating on it based on the feedback you get from your users.
It is always good to keep partners in your journey who believes in your vision and is equally committed. It helps in brainstorming ideas, its implementation, further iteration etc.
b).The real struggle starts in bringing user to your website and making them a regular user. It needs perfect match of very good product and a solid marketing.
So once the product is launched in market, make sure that you give ample time to its marketing. If you are under budget constraint, start with online social marketing, write blogs, fine-tune SEO.
c).Remember, there are big players in the market and you have to compete with them. It will be a herculean task but don`t get disheartened, keep your outlook positive and stay focus on making the product better with time.
d).Don`t chase VC just after launching the product. VCs are selective as they want high returns. You will have to do further preparation in convincing them that your product will give them stellar returns. It will further drift away your energy and focus. Let your work speak itself through your product and once product gains traction, VC will themselves come chasing you.
e).Lastly, there will be times when people will criticize your product or say negative things about it. Take positive criticism in your stride and move on. Don’t pay attention to negative things. Start slowly and work steadily on your product on regular basis. Grow your network by talking to friends and colleagues and be on the lookout of opportunity to market and sell out your product.
