Start Up Weekend – India


The Mumbai start up weekend is happening on 10-12th Feb’2012 followed by eighth and ninth editions to be held in Chennai and Delhi in March and April respectively. Based on the philosophy of actions speak louder than words, start-up weekend gives a timeframe of just a weekend, over which ideas are passed around, concrete models & business plans are built. In addition to attendees who generally comprise of entrepreneur enthusiasts, the event attracts speakers, mentors, panelists and various sponsors and company representatives.

Startup Weekend is a registered  not-for-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington, USA, that organizes weekend events during which groups of developers, startup enthusiasts & marketing gurus pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, all within a weekend.

In the past 3 years Startup Weekend has grown into an organization with a global presence, having organized 207 events spanning 120 cities and 35 countries In September 2010, Startup Weekend received a grant from The Kauffman Foundation, the largest foundation for entrepreneurship in the world.

Founded in 2007 in Boulder, Colorado by Andrew Hyde, the organization has eight full-time employees, over 15 ‘Key Facilitators’, and more than 100 local organizers. Startup Weekend has organized over 200 events in 30 countries, including Lebanon, Israel, Oman, Spain, Portugal, Russia, UK, Italy, Chile, Brazil, US, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, and more. The first Start-up Weekend in India was organized in Delhi in March 2011. Since then, Start-up Weekend has been organized five times in four different cities in this country.

In November 2010, Startup Weekend was listed in Forbes as a “Name You Need to Know In 2011.
