StartHubNation: Your co-working space

Startup culture is booming in India. But for startups the office space and facilities are the toughest task after finding funding. As a startup you don’t want to spend too much on working space but you are left with no choice. Seeing this as the opportunity rather than a problem four friends belonging to IT industry started starthubnation.

Starthub Nation has started in Mohali to provide co-working space, mentorship and incubation in future. They’re going to have startup events organized like any other incubator. Just that, they’re one of the very few people here in Chandigarh who have a coworking space. Probably the 1st one in Mohali the IT hub of Punjab.

Techaloo got a chance to have a chit-chat with Mr. Parampreet Singh Kalra, one of the founders @ Starthubnation. Let see what he shared with us.

Techaloo: When did you start your journey?
Four Partners, Parampreet Singh Kalra & Ravish Jamwal (Satnam Infosys), Jaswinder Singh & Simranjeet Singh (Techkaleido) thought of a common office space where their two firms can work in total coordination and Starthub Nation sprouted as an idea. The ideation began in January, 2014 and we launched the coworking space in August after months of research.

Techaloo: What motivated you to start Starthub Nation?
Need to work in a common area with number of skillsets made us start this Co-working space. In IT, we often need to outsource tasks of various skillsets which generally prove to be a bane due to communication gap and issues. In Starthub Nation, you can outsource tasks to maybe your next desk guy. Also, Chandigarh needed such a concept and co-working space since long, being an IT hub. We have mentors and investors allied up already to focus on incubators and accelerators in Chandigarh and tricity.

Techaloo: What was your vision/mission while starting Starthub Nation?
The vision is clear, we wish to make this concept a success and build a platform for World Class startup events in Chandigarh.

Techaloo: What hurdles did you face while starting?
We’re young (Parampreet Singh Kalra is just 23) and not from big colleges or IIT backgrounds which is generally a matter of lesser preference in this industry. Moreover, the concept is new and alien for most of the startups and freelancers in Chandigarh so we’ve had tough times explaining people the benefit of Co-working.

Techaloo: Why did you choose Mohali as the place which is not known for startup culture?
Mohali is a part of the Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali tricity which is a focus of youth and students in the North after New Delhi. It’s one of the cleanest & greenest cities of India and a niche market for a co-working space. Big names like Dell, Quark and IBM already operate from Mohali, which is Punjab’s IT city.

Techaloo: Tell us something about your services.
A Co-working space providing 24 hours internet and electricity to freelancers and startups plus access to startup events, mentors, investors and conferences. You can chose your seat, get it custom designed or just grab a bean bag to work in a complete air-conditioned office giving your clients an MNC feel. We’re also starting virtual office facility as we move ahead. Access to meeting rooms, Conference room, telephone booth etc.

Techaloo: How big is the space?
2500 Sq Ft is operational right now with another 2500 Sq Ft in the making.

Techaloo: What is the pricing model?
Here it goes:
o   1 seat-Rs.3999/month
o   1 to 4 –Rs.7999/month
o   4 to 6 – Rs.10999/month
o   6 to 10 – Rs.13999/month
o   10 to 15 – Rs.17999/month
o   15 to 20 – Rs 24999/month
o   20+ – On availability.

Techaloo: Are you restricting services to a particular line of startup e.g., IT, Healtcare etc. or is it for every one?
This is for everyone. IT is just the focus market these days but anyone that fits in the criteria is welcome.

Techaloo: How are you different from your competitors?
I think we don’t have enough competition in Chandigarh (Tricity). There are just a couple of other similar places but they’re more focused towards incubation than just co-working.

Techaloo: Why should a startup choose your services?
I think coworking is latest and a startup cannot get any better deal for an office space than what we provide. A startup looking for minimal expenditures cannot afford MNC price. But with us, they can get MNC standards for sure. And clients love to see them working in a great space and environment.

Techaloo: How is the response till now?
It’s good, despite of the fact that it is a lesser known concept in the region. A couple of freelancers and 3 startups have already registered with us. Two firms are already operating from the space.

Techaloo: What are your plans for next 3 years?
To expand the space and have operations in multiple locations in tricity. Get best of startup events and investors reach in the city and become mentors and incubators for at least 10 successful startups. World Class.

Techaloo: What will be your advice for budding entrepreneurs?
If you get an idea someday, execution is the best plan you can follow to accomplish it. Failure is just a threat that you pose to yourself, it’s not evident. Moreover, if you don’t execute your ideas, someone else will do.

Techaloo: What do you think about
I’ve been following techaloo for almost a year now and feel that they’re the latest media of IT. As co-working is to latest offices, Techaloo is to latest media. I think they deliver best news around and about our industry to our desktops everyday which is a great job. 5 stars.
