The Decent Planet was started on August 9th, 2013 by two MBA graduates. It is a social network for making new friends within an environment that is free from obscenity, fake profiles, trolls and spammers. This also makes it extremely conducive for intellectually stimulating and thought provoking discussions.Within such a small time-span they have reached to 11 Countries in the world. Now, they are launching the mobile app “Decency Quotient” as well.

The Decent Planet is not competing with the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+. Because none of them cater to the social networking space where people can make new friends.

The Decent Planet is the social network for decent people. Techaloo got an opportunity to have a chit chat with Mr. Piyush Grover, Co-Founder, The Decent Planet.

Techaloo : When did you start your journey?
So, one fine day, back in 2012, we were out having dinner and talking about how the internet has become a playground for fake profiles, spammers & trolls. The discussion continued till wee hours, and by that time, we had concurred to launch a platform that addresses these key issues.
Having realized the seriousness of this problem, and how (in a broader sense) it impedes the flow of intellectually stimulating discussions, and the fact that we couldn’t find a solution anywhere, we thought of coming up with a solution.
The product development and conceptualization/implementation for finer details took a while and The Decent Planet was launched for public use on 9th August, 2013.

Techaloo : What was your vision/mission while starting TheDecentPlanet?
We had envisioned a platform where people can have positive, healthy and engaging discussions without having to worry about the negative elements such as fake profiles, obscenity lovers, trolls and spammers.

Techaloo : Why the name “The Decent Planet”?
We wanted a name that’s simple, unpretentious and represents our broad vision.

Techaloo : How do you define “Decent People”?
Well, we define ‘Decency’ as not being irrational and hurtful.
Selection is a two-step process:
Someone who wishes to be a part of The Decent Planet, needs to fill the sign-up form which has some basic questions and some not-so-basic questions.

1st step: While studying their form, we try to gauge the thought process and the applicant’s interest level about this concept.

2nd step: We check their online presence to see if there’s any tendency or history of indecency.

There’s always a pattern which makes it easier to recognize the potential trouble-makers.

Techaloo : Have you got any kind of funding?
Not yet. It has been self-funded so far. But we’re in touch with some investors who find this interesting.

Techaloo : Explain a little more about “The Decent Planet”?
In a nutshell, The Decent Planet is a social network for making new friends within an environment that is free from obscenity, fake profiles, trolls and spammers. This also makes it extremely conducive for intellectually stimulating and thought provoking discussions.
The Decent Planet is not competing with the likes (no pun intended) of Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+. Because none of them cater to the social networking space where people can make new friends.

Techaloo : What differentiate you from your competitors like Badoo, Fropper, Twoo etc.?
What differentiates us is the fact that we rely predominantly on a pro-active approach of not letting potential trouble-makers to pass through the entry barrier. None of our competitors use this approach, giving a free-run to trolls, spammers, obscenity lovers and fake profiles.

Techaloo : Are you planning to have mobile apps as well?
Sure. That’s on the priority list. We’re working on a concept, that we’ve named the ‘Decency Quotient’, which would form the core of the app.

Techaloo : What are your plans for next 3 years?
We intend to integrate ‘Gravity’ which will be a clean, non-intrusive, curated dating application which will take into account ‘Decency Quotient’ while addressing the problem of approaching the potential ‘SO’ (significant other).

Also planning to bring in an online debate platform, 3rd party apps & social gaming, astronomy themed design, ‘The Best Of The Internet’ (feed of the best content floating on the internet.)

Techaloo : Share some info about founders?
The team currently comprises of two co-founders: Piyush Grover and Piyush Pandey.
Both Engineers & MBAs (from DTU and Amity respectively) who feel strongly about entrepreneurship and equally suck at spelling that word correctly.

Techaloo : What will be your advice for budding entrepreneurs?
Perseverance (with positive attitude) will be ‘The’ key to your venture’s success. Most of the ‘overnight successes’ took years to be called that. There will always be people telling you what’s wrong with your startup; be open minded and take their feedback to use it to your advantage. Always be willing to learn (from anyone.)

Techaloo : What do you think about techaloo.com?
Within a young and evolving start-up ecosystem like ours, it is very encouraging to see Techaloo carving its own niche while promoting entrepreneurship at the earliest stages. We find their efforts in the contribution of the start-up ecosystem’s growth extremely commendable.
