Tata Institute of Social Sciences  is a social sciences institute based in Mumbai,India.The TISS was established in 1936, then named as  Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The first school of social work in India, TISS was a pioneering effort with the objective of Social Welfare through academic excellence, a characteristic of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT).

Vision:To be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to the changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred and ecologically sustainable society that promotes and protects the dignity,equality, social justice and human rights for all,with special emphasis on marginalised and vulnerable groups.

There are Six Schools inside TISS namely:

  • School of Management and Labour Studies
  • School of Rural Development
  • School of Social Sciences
  • School of Social Work
  • School of Health Systems Studies
  • School of Habitat Studies

There are many Bachelors and Masters Programs.

TISS also has International Collaborations with Universities in USA,Europe,Australia and Canada.

TISS also does many service related activities in response to disasters.Some of its activities are intervention in Mumbai Floods,support to tsunami affected in India and Sri Lanka,Earthquake in Kashmir and Kachchh in Gujarat.
